Theoretical ATPL training

What is ATPL training ?

The ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot Licence) training program is designed for anyone aspiring to build a career in aviation as an airline pilot. It is a crucial step, as the theoretical part covers all the necessary knowledge, across 13 modules, to proceed to the practical phase.

Upon completing the ATPL training, student pilots are qualified to undertake practical training, enabling them to apply for co-pilot positions with airlines. They can operate commercial aircraft transporting passengers or cargo. It is truly a bridge to a professional pilot career.

Why choose theoretical ATPL training?

The theoretical ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot Licence) training is an essential step for anyone aspiring to become a professional pilot. Choosing to undertake theoretical ATPL training offers several crucial advantages.

First, the theoretical ATPL training provides an in-depth understanding of the technical, regulatory, and operational aspects of aviation. It covers a wide range of subjects, including meteorology, air navigation, aviation law, principles of flight, aircraft knowledge, and airline operations, to name just a few. This knowledge is essential for being able to pilot an airliner safely and efficiently.

Secondly, in such a competitive field as air transport, theoretical ATPL training offers a significant advantage in the job market. Airlines generally prefer to hire pilots with solid theoretical training, as it demonstrates a serious commitment to the career and ensures that the pilot possesses the knowledge necessary to handle a variety of in-flight situations.

Moreover, theoretical ATPL training is a prerequisite for taking the ATPL exam, which is required to obtain the airline pilot license. Without this training, it would be impossible to sit for the exam and acquire the license.

Finally, at Aéropyrénées, our theoretical ATPL training is designed to be interactive and engaging. We use modern learning tools and simulators to help our students understand and retain the information. Our instructors are experienced aviation professionals who are passionate about sharing their knowledge with the next generation of airline pilots.

In conclusion, choosing theoretical ATPL training is a wise investment for anyone considering a career in air transport. It is a crucial step on the path to becoming an airline pilot.

What are the prerequisites for ATPL Theoretical training?

To enroll in the theoretical ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot Licence) training at Aéropyrénées, several conditions must be met. These prerequisites ensure that candidates have the qualifications and abilities necessary to fully benefit from our training program.

  • Age : Candidates must be at least 18 years old to enroll in the theoretical ATPL training. This minimum age is required by civil aviation regulations for obtaining the ATPL license.
  • Educational level : A level of education equivalent to a high school diploma is generally recommended. While not a strict requirement, this ensures that candidates have basic skills in mathematics and physics, as well as the necessary English proficiency to understand the theoretical training program.
  • Private Pilot License (PPL) : Candidates must hold a Private Pilot License (PPL), which is a basic qualification for flying light aircraft. This license demonstrates that the candidate has acquired basic piloting skills and has some flight experience.
  • Flight hours : Candidates must have completed a minimum number of solo flight hours before enrolling in the ATPL training. This may vary, but candidates are typically required to have accumulated at least 150 flight hours, including some night flying.
  • Medical fitness : Finally, candidates must undergo a medical examination and obtain a Class 1 medical certificate. This ensures they are in good physical and mental health to operate an aircraft.

It should be noted that these prerequisites may vary slightly depending on the specific regulations of each country. At Aéropyrénées, we seek to guide each candidate through this process by providing all necessary information and assisting with the preparation of enrollment documents.

What is the ATPL theoretical version training program?

The theoretical ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot Licence) training at Aéropyrénées is structured around several key modules, designed to provide student pilots with an in-depth understanding of various aspects of aviation.

Starting with Air Law and Air Traffic Control (ATC) is essential, as this knowledge enables students to understand the rules and regulations governing the skies. This legal foundation is complemented by familiarization with various aircraft systems, covering everything from aircraft operating principles to navigation equipment.

Aircraft performance and flight planning are another critical area of training. The goal here is to teach students how to optimize aircraft performance based on factors such as weather conditions and payload. Simultaneously, students delve into human performance and limitations, studying the impact of factors like stress and fatigue on piloting.

Meteorology is another vital area of study, as understanding weather conditions is fundamental to flight safety. Students learn to interpret weather reports and make accurate forecasts.

The modules on Navigation and Operational Procedures focus on navigation techniques and standard and emergency procedures for handling various in-flight situations. Students also explore the fundamentals of aerodynamics and aircraft control as part of their study of the principles of flight.

Finally, communication is a critical component of ATPL training, with a particular emphasis on learning aviation English. This training is enriched by continuous access to our experienced instructors, comprehensive learning resources, and state-of-the-art flight simulators, making Aéropyrénées a premier destination for ATPL theoretical training.

100 KSA: The new ATPL format

This program, developed in collaboration between Civil Aviation and EASA, incorporates continuous assessment throughout the theoretical training, alongside practical training.

It is therefore not a module to be completed under the authority of Civil Aviation, but rather a continuous evaluation within Aéropyrénées, conducted through the e-learning platform in the form of a serious game.

This approach aims to establish an educational connection between theory and practice, allowing you to gradually engage yourself in your future professional environment and apply the skills required for your future career.

The golden rules of the ATPL

  • You have 18 months (starting from the first attempt) to complete the entire ATPL
  • You must pass all 13 modules within a maximum of 6 sessions
  • Each modules can be attempted a maximum of 4 times
