Since January 2020, new standards have come into effect for all candidates wishing to begin a Type or Class Rating on complex aircraft, and you have likely already heard the new term UPRT Advanced.
The UPRT (Upset Prevention Recovery Training) course is now mandatory before starting a qualification.
Thus, two programs have been defined by Civil Aviation:
Class 1 or 2 medical certificate
Licence PPL or CPL
5 hours of ground lessons
3 hours of flight on a single engine
1 hour on a certified aerobatic aircraft type CAP 10, Extra 300 or R2160
The entire course takes place over one week and is divided into two fundamental parts: a theoretical section and a practical section consisting of four flight sessions.
The educational objectives will focus on helping the candidate improve their overall maneuverability while piloting, and for most, to experience recoveries from unusual attitudes on a certified aerobatic aircraft.
The emphasis during this course will be on building self-confidence in various situations and managing the element of surprise. All the exercises conducted will aim to enhance resilience, stress management, and specific piloting skills.
