Private Pilot License (PPL)

Everything You Need to Know About the PPL

What is a private pilot license?

The first step in modular airline pilot training, the Private Pilot License (PPL) is an official document that allows an individual to pilot an aircraft privately.

With a private pilot license, the holder can fly with passengers for personal enjoyment or leisure activities, but they cannot be compensated for their piloting services. This license can also be seen as a first step for those wishing to pursue a career in aviation.

In summary, the private pilot license is a permit that allows you to pilot an aircraft privately for recreational activities. At Aéropyrénées, we are here to help you obtain your private pilot license and fulfill your dreams of flying.

What type of aircraft to fly with a private pilot license?

A private pilot license allows you to pilot a wide range of light aircraft, such as single-engine planes, multi-engine planes, and piston-driven aircraft. However, there are restrictions on the types of aircraft you can fly with this license. For example, the private pilot license does not permit you to pilot commercial or military aircraft.

In general, the private pilot license allows you to fly aircraft weighing less than 5,700 kg, with a maximum of six passengers. This includes general aviation aircraft, sport planes, and light business jets.

It is important to note that even if a person holds a private pilot license, they must still obtain a specific endorsement to pilot certain types of aircraft, such as jet aircraft and turboprop planes. This additional qualification requires specific training and appropriate flight experience.

Do you need to renew your private pilot license?

As a private pilot, you are required to renew your license every two years. This process ensures that you are still capable of flying safely and adhering to the latest regulations in effect.

To renew your license, you will need to undergo a medical examination and a skills assessment with a qualified flight instructor. If you can demonstrate that you have the necessary skills to fly safely, your license will be renewed for a period of two years.

It is important to remember that failing to renew your license may result in the invalidation of your insurance in the event of an accident.

How much does a private pilot license cost?

The private pilot license is a crucial step for those looking to become an aircraft pilot. The cost of a private pilot license depends on several factors, such as the type of aircraft used, the required flight hours, and the region where the training takes place.

At Aéropyrénées, the average cost of our private pilot license is 12,550 €.
This fee includes all associated charges, including theoretical and practical training fees, flight tests, examiner fees, landing fees, and administrative costs. Students should also budget for civil aviation fees (DGAC). Additionally, it is necessary for students to have their own flying equipment, such as aviation headsets, flight manuals, and aeronautical charts. We offer an optional pilot pack that includes everything needed for training follow-up!
