ATO transfer

Everything you need to know about changing schools.

You are currently enrolled in a professional training school and wish to change centers without losing your progress?

Here are some tips for the ATO transfer process.

In what context can you request an ATO transfer?

Any request for an ATO transfer must follow an assessment of resumption (VFR or IFR, depending on the phase) and a transfer of documentation between schools.

CASE Nº1 – Changing schools within the context of an Integrated ATP training program.

The DGAC offers a complete Integrated ATP training program in an ab-initio format, which is relatively condensed and provides a comprehensive curriculum to become an airline pilot. However, unlike a modular training program (step by step), you will not hold any licenses or qualifications until the entire training is fully completed.

For example, if you have passed your CPL test but have not completed your IFR and MCC, you will not be able to obtain any licenses.

In this context, if you wish to change schools, the Educational Manager of the new school may request your progress book.

CASE Nº2 – Changing schools within the context of a Modular ATPL training program.

In this case, the file will be transferred only for the current phase. If you are in IFR training and have already completed the CPL, the transfer will apply only to the ongoing IFR training.

Questions/Answers

Q: How long can the school transfer take?
A: It will depend on the completion of your file (which must be submitted in full to make the request) and the completion of the evaluation. Generally, the transfer can be quite quick and finalized within 2 to 4 weeks.

Q: Can I enroll in another school without an ATO transfer?
A: If you are currently in training, any progress not transferred to the DGAC by the new ATO will be lost. Therefore, it is essential to carry out this process if you wish to retain the training you have already completed.

Q: The CPL is completed on multi-engine aircraft, but on single-engine in the new school. Is this a problem?
A: No, the order of the modules (CPL / MEP / IR) may be different, but the end goal is the same. At Aéropyrénées, the CPL is completed exclusively on single-engine VPRU (which is more accessible and less costly overall). If you are currently in CPL training, we can offer you the appropriate program accordingly.

Q: I am currently in ATPL training; can I request an ATO transfer?
A: Yes, absolutely. The procedure remains the same. The new school can take over your ongoing ATPL and the modules that have already been validated.
