Aviation English Training & Test – FCL 055

RS5582

English is currently the international language primarily used in aviation.

As such, EASA regulations require every pilot flying abroad to have a qualification in the English language.

To assess your level of English, a language proficiency assessment, FCL 055, is offered at Aéropyrénées in partnership with ATA COM & AIR EXAM.

The “Aircrew” regulation is applicable in France. It notably defines the requirements related to the language proficiency of pilots. Since 2013, the English language proficiency examination (FCL1.200) has been replaced by FCL.055 D, and the language proficiency checks FCL1.028 IFR and FCL1.028 VFR have become FCL.055 IFR and FCL.055 VFR, respectively.

As the regulation automatically recognizes titles and qualifications compliant with JAR-FCL, the FCL1.200 or FCL1.028 competencies remain valid after April 8, 2013, within the limits of their expiration date. The FCL.055 competencies are common to all categories of aircraft.

  • Level 4: validity of 4 years

  • Level 5: validity of 6 years

Candidates can anticipate the extension of their proficiency level up to 12 months before the expiration date without losing the validity of the current language proficiency.

In case of failure, the existing valid language proficiency remains unaffected.
